Saldivar Told About Death of His Kids Killed During Hurricane Harvey
Saldivar was first briefed of the sudden death of his kids on Aug. 29. The discovery came after a fellow inmate allowed him to use some prepaid phone minutes. He made a call home aiming to talk to his family, of course including the children.
The former inmate said that he was shocked so much that he could not believe it. In fact, he reportedly thought that it was just a cruel joke. When he saw the kids being aired on the television in prison, he still could not believe they were all gone.
Jason Saldivar recalls having said that those children on TV are not his. He denied it, telling himself that they had to be somebody else’s kids.
His four children are not the only ones who were killed in the horrible accident. The kid’s great grandparents also lost their lives:
- Belia Saldivar, 81
- Manuel Saldivar, 84
The elderly couple was also present in the van, at the time of the fatal tragedy. According to reports, the family was attempting to escape the rising flood water in Houston. Family members who survived reported that family member Sammy Saldivar was the alleged driver of the van.
Luckily Sammy managed to escape the life threatening encounter. However, he feels guilty, thinking that he could have prevented the deaths of the family elders and children killed during Hurricane Harvey.
This van that was holding 6-family members when it became submerged four feet of water during the tropical storm.
The perishing of the six members of Saldivar Family was among the first outcomes from Harvey to attract the national headlines.
